I last read this book in the late 80s or early 90s and loved it, a re-read has still been enjoyable and it was good enough to keep going onto the last book in this particular trilogy but not to move onto the others, I have them sitting on the shelf but there are more compelling reads out there. Very thinly disguised Tolkeinesque story, I presume it started as a way of avoiding royalties.

That said this series makes a great teenager fantasy story.
