Rhinogs, 2005

A second trip to the Rhinogs, this time with Helen as well as Andy and the fortunate circumstance of trading in the awful B&B for a static caravan.

Walking from Ardingly reservoir to Balcombe Viaduct & loop round.
Good family walk of a few miles and the feat of Victorian engineering that is a viaduct from close up is awe inspiring.

A walk on Ashdown Forest past Nutley Windmill where a steam fair was just starting up, lovely day and usual hassles navigating on heathland. Took in a couple of different walks.

Waunfawr to Rhyd Du, 2015

Waunfawr Station 5277 5868
Foot path past Moel Smytho to the East & Moel Tryfan to the West to the top of Myndd Mawr & down Foel Rudd 54825431 along edge of peak, 698m.

Forestry routes to Rhyd-Du are all blocked by barbed wire, very hot and had to walk around the forestry.

hard walk, dramatic up and down with no other options.

Alone.

Apprxo 12km
(Ord Surv est was 7m & 3.09 hours).

Lost compass & whistle somewhere near the start!

Ashdown Forest, 2013

Clear, bright, sunny, 1 heavy rain shower
Start : 473506
Follow roman road N to 494353
West into Hartfield & lunch at the Anchor pub (excellent).
Follow High Weald trail NW to meet Forest Way.

West then down from 473360 to 474353, 474355 then follow path to Pooh Sticks bridge 470339.
Continue on path S to car park, cross road & follow path South to car park @468315 & back cross country to start.

16km
4.5hrs inc lunch,

Exmoor, 2011

Very hot & no breeze. Hottest October day on record.
Start point car park 793486 to Watersmeet (where I recognised some of my grand father's tourist pics).
N. to Foreland point then follow coast back to car park.

10.5 miles (only).
Ran out of water early on, had to buy more drinks at Watersmeet.
Stupidly hot, approx 7 hours, struggled.

B&B, the owner, picture, fat, hairy, string vest. Deep fried breakfast, I had to ask Andy what the pink, fluffy thing on my plate was because I had never seen a deep fried, cheapo, sausage before.

Ben had to have his rucksack collected & Chris Paul & I walked with him - suffering from fear of the weight of the rucksack. Dave Schieldkamp took the rest of the group ahead.
