Brazil, day 2, Thursday, March 30th 2017

Arrival in firstly Sao Paulo and a short flight later in Florianopolis.

Florianopolis Airport

It was a long flight and Roger is there waiting for us. It's hot and sunny and the trip to home, for the next few weeks, is through a typical environment of rain forest encroaching on human building efforts and humans fighting back. Unfortunately, the latter are winning but still everything is very green and fresh, a much deeper green than at home.

Arrive to find Ale suffering from a cold of all things and meet Sooty and Bruxa the dogs for the first time.

A coffee or two later and some nibbles before we set off to Villa Fattima where we see the view down part of the South-East coast with the waves rolling onto the beautiful beaches

while being surrounded by wild growing papaya and plants that at home make small houseplants but here are tree climbing triffids.

Leaving the hillside we paused at Lagoa de Peri, a shallow fresh water lake, for a paddle

and our first encounter with leaf-cutter ants in the wild.

In amongst the trees we see bromeliads growing wild with air plants taking up residence in the least accessible places and hanging from overhead wires.

Driving on we passed the beach of Praia da Armacao which we could see from Villa Fattima and parked at Igreja Santana for an early evening walk along the beach

to Ponta das Campanhas, a rocky out crop

where Alex demonstrated his mountain goat genes scrambling
across the accessible rocks of the headlands with waves crashing all around us.

From the headland we were looking over the bay of Praia do Matadeiro where whales would, in earlier years, been driven and slaughtered but now sandy beaches and relaxed people are the order of the day.

Result!

Google's Blogger Dynamic views can now display Adsense ads but for the life of me I could not get them to display.

After much too and fro it turns out that I have AdBlocker installed as a Google Chrome application and that is automatically filtered adsense advertisements seamlessly from the page - no blank patches, simply not there.

The adblock tool also filers content from blog posts - so I had attempted to write a blog post criticising (constructively) Google's adsense help / lack thereof but the post just appeared as a blank box so I was convinced big brother was filtering such comments.

So Adblock duly removed as somewhat over zealous.

It seems that this blogger thing has a lot of capabilites - in fact it does a lot of what Postnuke did without any of the setup hassle, no perfect but it is time to start transferring content from my old site which might be a struggle given that the site is down, always up for a challenge.

Welcome

Welcome to my blog, this is my first effort and I've labelled it "The Page Family" blog because I'll have once location to cover everything I'm going to post relating to myself, Chris Page, my wife, Lorna Page and our son, Alex Page.

This would be incomplete without including our pets - we currently have 1 cat (Clyde) who is being treated for a punctured eye at the moment having been blind in one eye for sometime now, our fish - currently two tanks, one tropical and one coldwater, two hamsters and Lorna has a horse.

Eventually I will get around to transferring old site contents - after all I start this site with the demise of my Postnuke based website which I simply don't have time to maintain properly.
